So, how will we become the change that we need to see in our world? When a feeling of helplessness arises, and fear mixed with anger and despair embrace us like an old friend – it is at this very moment that we have a choice… A choice to believe that this universe was birthed in love and self-offering, and to deny the demon called Paralyzed Indifference that brings only weak resignation. Mother Teresa wrote: “I never look at the masses as my responsibility; I look at the individual. I can only love one person at a time – just one, one, one. So you begin. I began – I picked up one person. Maybe if I didn’t pick up that one person, I wouldn’t have picked up forty-two thousand….The same thing goes for you, the same thing in your family, the same thing in your church, your community. Just begin – one, one, one.” The same choice comes to us this very moment – To be the change is choosing to live every moment of our lives for radical non-violence by seeking to lay down your need for self preservation for the goal of saving one, one, one.
